Brewing Up Some Wine!

Posted by Raivyn in ,

Last Thursday (Oct. 9) was an eventful day. J and I took a road trip up to Fulkerson Winery in Dundee, NY to pick up a winemaking kit and 5 gallons of Concord grape juice (which is excellent, by the way).

Because it was October 9th, the weirdest day of the year for me, we had a couple small misfortunes.

My camera decided to stop working right at the start of the trip, so all those photos I wanted to take of the mountains, trees, lakes, etc. didn't happen. Go figure.

Then we got lost. I'm not quite sure how that one happened, but we took a wrong turn somewhere and wound up going a couple hours out of our way, on backwoods roads we weren't familiar with. We eventually stopped and bought a road map, and soon enough, we finally made it into wine country.

I was quite impressed with Fulkerson, actually. The building was beautiful- much nicer than the other wineries we passed on the way up. And the staff was great. It was a cheerful atmosphere, and everyone was extremely helpful and doing exactly what they were supposed to.

Once J and I picked up our kit and juice, and put it all in the car, we went back in to taste some wine. And damn, it was good! So good we picked up four bottles of three different kinds before leaving.

We plan to return in the spring, when our wine has pretty much finished fermenting, and we'll need some more juice. I'm really looking forward to the trip again, and totally recommend it to anyone in the general area who's into that kind of thing. Great place, indeed.
